Anime: Pictures of real life locations by series title
not intended to be taken seriously

Since our connections with English speaking people on the net... who actually know something about Japan... are at least fifty percent pop culture related... i thought this would be a good idea ( though i might be wrong ). A list of anime titles ( and a dorama ) that take place at real locations in Japan, partially or in whole. Well we did not follow screenshots as close as some other sites on the net ^.^' ( let me excuse myself for being 'admiring' such people... from a distance ! ) but at least you can recognize some of the animated stuff on the photos even if from a different angle :-P

Not that this concept was on my mind when i made the photos ( except for Aomori :) but once sorting them i kind of realized this theme. The list was put together with the help of others. If you know of a title-location combo that is featured on our site, drop a line at the chat page, and we'll add it !

Elfen Lied
エルフェンリート - official site

Kamakura ( noted by KunJinky )

かりん - official site

pretty secretive but after some eps it's definately Yokohama ( especially ep. 12-13 )

R.O.D. the TV
- official site

Half of the world and all of Tokyo... but the most interesting place is Jinbocho, the Book Town in Kanda.

Shimokita ... well, there aren't too many references to real life places in the series, but remember the place that keeps being mentioned throughout the episodes, whenever Mimiru is trying to convince Tsukasa to not hate life (that much) and actually have a conversation ? And says they could go to Shimokita, minamiguchi shotengai, that shopping town at the south gate which both of them liked. Well, yeah it is a cool place to be.

ラブレス - official site - or visit Kouga Yun's official site

Futako-Tamagawa, ( fights are down at Tamagawa riverbank and such ), Yokohama again ( ep. 11 ), Shibuya ( ep.8 ), Sakuragaoka...

ナナ - official site

all over Tokyo! Intentionally not mentioning placenames but the scenes are pretty realistic so you can guess...

Gunparade Orchestra
ガンパレード オーケストラ - official site

Aomori... well not only Aomori city, but that's where they hang out.

Angelic Layer

Tokyo, Ebisu, and was it Tokyo Dome for the nationals... i'm not sure if i remember right.

Kita-he Diamond dust drops
北へ。~Diamond Dust Drops~

Hokkaido, Sapporo for eps. 10, 11 - THAT i do recall...

パトレイバー - official site

Tokyo in general with lots of scenes at landfills in the bay, like Tokyo Teleport, which is funny for when the episodes were made it was probably still under construction...

Bakuretsu Tenshi
爆裂天使 - official site

I didn't like this series particularly but loved the parody of stereotyping kansaijin... Osaka is more or less recognizable in the series... The bay area, and the Tsuutenkaku tower in Shinsekai.

Hana yori dango
花より男子 - official site

Ebisu, Daikanyama, Ueno, Tokyo in general ( or was that the dorama only ^_^ eh... well... mm. )

最終兵器彼女 - official site

Again not my type of anime but that's Sapporo being burned down wasn't it? Takes place mostly in Hokkaido

鴉 - official site

Shinjuku ( IchigoK90, thanks )

Zettai Shounen
絶対少年 - official site

Yokohama in its latter half

Boogiepop Phantom
ブギーポップは笑わない ~Boogiepop Phantom - official site

Yokohama ( thanks Slejpner )

Super Gals
超GALS! - official site

Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai
アベノ橋 魔法 商店街 - official site

Mahou Sensei Negima
魔法先生ネギま! - official site

Kyoto (?) Sorry, haven't seen this series ( not my type... :P ) but i was told it takes place in Kyoto. If not, please tell me and i'll take it down!

Seven of Seven
七人のナナ - official site

Kyoto ... well... actually it's an imaginary place called Kotomachi ( old town ) but it's an open "secret" that all of its places and streets were heavily inspired by actual Kyoto scenes, mostly the Higashiyama temple district.

涼風 - official site

Hokkaido in later episodes (?)

Paranoia Agent
妄想代理人 - official site

All over Tokyo. But just compare that ( imaginary ) golden era Ginza to the Ginza it is right now and you'll know how officer Ikari Keiichi felt by the end of the series.

Petopeto san
ぺとぺとさん - official site

Ginza, Shibuya of the places i am aware of...
